Navigating the 2025 Midwest Grantmaker Salary & Benefits Report

Wednesday, November 19, 2025 (12:00 PM - 1:30 PM) (CST)

Description

Looking to attract and retain talent at your foundation?

Curious if new federal guidelines regarding “excessive compensation” in philanthropy apply to your staff?

Join PhilMO for this special Members-only briefing to review our 2025 Midwest Grantmaker Salary, Benefits and Demographic Report (which will be released during– or just before – this program).

This annual report is available only to Members of Philanthropy Missouri and our peer philanthropy-infrastructure organizations in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

The report draws from the national salary survey conducted by the Council on Foundations. Brittany Kienker, Ph.D., of the Council on Michigan Foundations, leads Midwest analysis and will present key findings, review the federal tax law adjustment, and address questions on using and navigating the data to meet your foundation's unique needs.

We are also pleased to share with you an important companion publication prepared by Dr. Kienker – What Boards & Executives Need to Know about Reasonable Compensation (updated Summer 2025). This recently updated report reviews legal requirements as well as model practices for values-driven compensation in the philanthropic space. It provides a grounding in key concepts necessary for the successful governance and management of foundations and is an especially useful resource for Board/Trustee leaders and senior staff.

key takeaways

✅ Insight on salary and benefits trends for Midwest-based grantmaking institutions; and
