Midwest Community Foundation Legal Program (Members-Only)

Description

Community foundation leaders are often asked to navigate legal challenges, and it can be difficult to understand the unique rules, regulations, and jargon in the field. 

Designed specifically for community foundation CEOs and key leaders, this special virtual program will provide practical guidance on the legal concepts that shape fund management and organizational decision-making. 

Led by Heather Moore and Manny McMiller of Faegre Drinker, the program will break down complex topics into concepts that make sense, and it will include case studies and opportunities for Q&A. Review the agenda below for included topics.

We will discuss variance power, Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act (UPMIFA), the Pension Protection Act, and more.

11:00am - Noon CT    Break

Noon - 2:00 pm         Fund Agreements and Making Changes to Funds

The learning continues with a special focus on the components of fund agreements, considerations for different types of funds, and when/how to make changes to fund agreements.

Heather Moore advises nonprofit organizations on a range of legal challenges. She addresses their comprehensive needs on issues related to formation, internal governance, ongoing compliance, general tax advice, and the preparation of related documents and policies. Heather advises colleges and universities, fraternities and sororities, private foundations, community foundations, charities and other organizations exempt from federal and state income taxes. She regularly provides advice regarding issues related to the management and modification of institutional funds.
